Explaining the Process of Kimono & Yukata Rental

We explain the process of kimono and yukata rental, starting from making reservations on our website to your visit, the selection of kimonos, payment timing, and payment methods. Even if you're renting a kimono for the first time, you can use our services with confidence. We also provide information about the time required from your visit to departure, return times, and specific details for each rental plan. Additionally, we have compiled some frequently asked questions for your reference.

Reservation

Reservation

You can make online reservations at any time, up to 10 minutes before your desired reservation time. Please reserve the kimono rental plan and date/time you prefer from the Rikawafuku Rental in Kyoto website. We also accept reservations by phone. On the day of the rental, we may accept reservations based on availability. The time required from check-in to departure for kimono rental is 45 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes. It may vary slightly depending on the day's busyness.

    Reservation Guidelines

  1. Cancellation: No cancellation fee until one day before your reservation.
  2. Same-day Reservations: Available based on availability, excluding peak periods.
  3. Time Required: 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes (varies based on busyness).
  4. Online Reservations: Available up to 10 minutes before your reservation time.

Please arrive at our shop at the reserved time. If you are running up to 5 minutes late, there is no need to inform us. Directions to our shop can be found on each shop's page. All the small items necessary for kimono rental are available, so you can visit us empty-handed.

  4. Kiyomizu-dera Shop: 8 minutes' walk from City Bus "Kiyomizu-michi".
  5. Kyoto Station Front Shop: 8 minutes' walk from Kyoto Station (all lines).
  6. Kawagoe Shop: 2 minutes' walk from Seibu Line "Hon-Kawagoe Station".
  7. Kamakura Shop: 4 minutes' walk from JR "Kamakura Station".

At check-in, we will confirm your kimono or yukata rental plan, offer kimono accessory options, and process your payment. If you wish to add options or change your reserved plan, please inform us on the day of your visit. We also accommodate walk-in kimono rentals on the same day if you decide to rent a kimono at our shop. Please note that we accept cash payments only to provide affordable kimono rentals.

At Asakusa Shop, you can choose from over 800 rental kimonos, and at Gion Shop, Arashiyama Shop, Kiyomizu-dera Shop, Kyoto Station Front Shop, Kawagoe Shop, and Kamakura Shop, there are over 300 rental kimonos and yukatas available. Regardless of the plan you've reserved, you have the freedom to choose your kimono from our wide selection. The prices remain the same regardless of the type of kimono or yukata you select, so you can use our services with peace of mind. If needed, our experienced dressers and hairstylists are available to provide advice on selecting your kimono and obi.

    Types of Kimonos and Selection Range

  1. Kimono Prices: You can choose from all kimonos for any plan (unlimited selection!).
  2. Obi: Generally comes as a set with the kimono.
  3. Kimono Variety: We offer a selection of 300 or more carefully curated trendy kimonos.

Kimono/Yukata Dressing

Kimono/Yukata Dressing

You can come empty-handed! Experienced dressers will dress you in the rental kimono or yukata at dedicated dressing areas in each shop. There's no need to bring anything specific; we provide all the necessary accessories. Please rest assured that we don't allow dressing in personally brought kimonos.

  1. Accessories: Tabi socks and drawstring bags are included in the set.
  2. Personal Kimonos: Dressing personal kimonos is not allowed.

Hairstyling

Kimono Rental Process - Hairstyling

After dressing in the kimono, a hairstylist will provide you with a hairstyling that matches the kimono. Our kimono hairstyling plans, kimono couple plans, and kimono hairstyling student discount plans all include hairstyling using irons and curling irons, along with hair accessories. These hairstyling options are suitable for all hair lengths. You can choose from five different hairstyling options. Please note that you can also use your own hair accessories if you prefer (please handle them yourself to avoid damage).

You can select sandals or geta that match your rental kimono or yukata. At Rikawafuku, we create trendy sandals as a special order to complement the latest kimono styles each season. In addition to the free drawstring bag, we also offer optional bags that can accommodate larger wallets for an additional ¥500 (tax included).

Luggage Storage

Luggage Storage

You can leave all unnecessary items behind when touring in your rental kimono. We offer luggage storage for all your belongings. We also provide storage for suitcases and strollers for an additional ¥500 (tax included) per item (extra charge applies during peak periods).

Rikawafuku Rental shops are conveniently located near tourist attractions, allowing you to enjoy sightseeing in your kimono immediately after renting. There are nearby tourist spots and restaurants, so you can explore the area in your kimono until it's time to return.

Returning Your Kimono

Please return your kimono by the final return time. Some shops offer next-day returns for an additional ¥2,000 (tax included). We may also extend our operating hours during special events such as summer fireworks festivals.

  2. Next-Day Returns: We will take a photo of your identification when you use next-day returns.
