Easy DIY Hairstyles for Kimono Rental – Simple & Elegant Looks!
When renting a kimono, one thing that concerns many people is the hairstyle.
After all, you want to look stylish when wearing a kimono!
Of course, at Rikawafuku Kimono, we offer hair styling as part of our packages, but some people prefer to do their own hair.
This time, we’ll introduce some easy and cute hair arrangements that even those who are not skilled can do and that go well with kimono rentals.
1. If You Have Long Hair, Try the “Haikara-san” Style!
For those with long hair, we recommend the “Haikara-san” style.
“Haikara-san” refers to female students from the Meiji and Taisho periods.
It’s a perfect match for kimono or yukata, with a half-up hairstyle adorned with a big ribbon or hair accessories.
For those with long hair, loose buns are also recommended. Gather loosely curled hair near the top of your head.
Finish it off by adding a large floral hair accessory, and it will go perfectly with yukata! It also looks cute with two hairpins or “kazashi.”
The bun hairstyle is recommended for those who want a neat look with their kimono.
Apply hair wax evenly throughout your hair, then tie it loosely at the top of your head and twist it there.
Take the twisted hair and wrap it around from the bottom, finally tucking it into the twist.
Secure it with hairpins, and you’re done!
2. Medium-Length Hair – Add Accessories for Impact
For those with medium-length hair that’s not too long or short, the classic half-up style is recommended. Divide your hair into 2-3 sections and secure them with twists to create a stylish look.
If you find it challenging to create a tied-up hairstyle with your medium-length hair, consider the “Gibson Tuck.”
Tie the hair on both sides into twists or braids, and then tie them together in the middle of the back of your head.
Divide the hair at the back into several sections, twist or braid them, and wrap them around the tied-up sides of your hair.
Once everything is tucked in, you’re done. Add some hair accessories for an elegant touch.
Another option is to create a gathered hair arrangement. Divide your hair into two sections diagonally on both sides, create three-strand braids with each section.
Bring the left section to the back behind your right ear and the right section behind your left ear, securing them to hide the ends.
3. Bob or Short Hair – Keep It Neat with Ears Out!
Straight bob hairstyles are perfect for a chic, modern Japanese look, and they require no additional styling.
A classic style is to leave one side of the hair out, typically one ear, for a neat and tidy appearance.
For bob styles with loose waves, consider twisting and securing the side hair at the back for a stylish look.
What goes well with kimono or yukata outfits are comb-type barrettes and flower hair accessories.
For those with short hair, adding volume to the top and giving it a fluffy finish creates an elegant and cute style.
Shift the hair flow to one side, leaving one side fluffy and the other side tight.
You can also add motif hairpins or small hair clips to the side with tight hair flow for an adorable look.
How did you find these hairstyles? In this article, we introduced easy hair arrangements that anyone can do in no time, even when you’re short on time.
